The Formative Assessment Now Quick Pack’s main point of difference with the FAN Toolkit resource is that it is based around the Traffic Lights Colour System that is popular with many teachers.

This compact formative assessment resource will slip seamlessly into classrooms that are currently using or are familiar with the Red/Yellow/Green/Blue key colours.

The quick pack kit comes with 32 durable, plastic answer paddles.

When combined with a class set of traffic colour stickers and a set of multi-purpose wall chart legends the teacher can perform formative assessment tasks involving the following multiple choice answer options:

  • Yes / No
  • A / B/ C / D
  • + / – / x / :-
  • Noun / Verb / Adjective / Adverb
  • I’m confused / — / — / I’ve got it (student self assessment)
  • Strongly Disagree / — / — / Strongly disagree (voting & polling)
  • 1st / 2nd / 3rd / 4th (sequencing & ranking)

Also note: When the wall chart legends are set on larger same coloured cardboard sheets teachers are able to add all manner of visual stimulus material to their assessment questioning. For example, photographs, drawings, words and phrases, numbers, shapes etc.

The Teacher Guide booklet offers a clear unpacking of this compact but highly effective kit.

The extensive BLM Resource Booklet presents a range of photocopiables that incorporate the formative assessment and visible learning philosophies of Prof. John Hattie and Prof. Dylan Wiliam. There are exit polls, peer assessment slips, learning logs, formative assessment games and concept maps covering stages 1, 2 and 3.

Two different recording pads make up the Quick Pack. These streamline data gathering and trend plotting. Such important data can influence future teaching methods and lesson direction/content.
